Latin America, the world’s most passionate audience

Few regions bring the FIFA World Cup to life like Latin America. Home to some of the game’s most iconic players and football cultures, the continent consistently delivers some of the world’s most emotionally engaged audiences.

Among the 36 markets tracked in Target Group Index Global Quick View 2026, Brazil and Argentina rank among the most likely to follow the World Cup – and football generally provides in comparable reach, cultural relevance, emotional intensity and commercial power across Latin America.

In 2026, there is an added dynamic: match timing. Games will be played across afternoon, evening and late‑night hours for Latin American audiences.

When compared to Qatar 2022, while the time zone is friendlier – the broadcast rights are more fragmented, making for a more complex ecosystem that combines official broadcaster and streaming partners (see below). Live matches remain important on the biggest screen in the home, with wider layers of viewing extending the audience’s journey.

High reach, integrated media experience

In Brazil, 75% of the population watched Brasileirão championship in 2025, demonstrating the extensive football national footprint. Total reach of Broadcast TV remained dominant with 70% of viewing among Brazilian population, followed by Pay TV at 28% and Video platforms at 20%, highlighting a multi-platform consumption landscape.

Viewing behaviour also highlights a relevant trend: 25% of Brasileirão consumption already occurs through co viewing, reinforcing the competition’s role as a shared viewing experience1.

This dynamic is not exclusive to Brazil. Across Latin America, football co‑viewing expands influence beyond national borders and individual audiences2.

About the Latin American Measurement Service

Ibope, a Fifty5Blue company, has operated a cross-media measurement ecosystem on a platform-level, understanding in-home video consumption since the launch of Cross-Platform View™ in 2022. Built on a robust, nationally representative in‑home panel of around 11,111 households on 5 countries, it allows a full media viewing across multiple devices.

In Brazil, this ecosystem offers an additional layer of precision, with Sports Audience Measurement. As audiences consume sports events simultaneously across Linear TV, Pay TV and on Streaming channels, Ibope now delivers in Brazil consistent audience ratings across all platforms within a single measurement framework. Built from the combination of Focal Meter and People Meter and designed specifically for in-home audience of sports events on TVs and CTVs, it measures streamers at a content-level and tracks exactly who is watching the game.

LatAm broadcast partners for World Cup 2026

The shift is visible in the way broadcasting rights are structured across Latin America. In Brazil, coverage will be shared across players including Globo, YouTube, CazéTV, SBT and N Sports. In Argentina, coverage will also be shared across players including TELEFE, TyC Sports, D-Sports and TV Pública. In Colombia, rights are shared across Caracol, RCN and Win Sports. In Chile, Chilevisión will be responsible for broadcasting. In Peru, América Televisión and DirecTV will form part of the tournament coverage. In Uruguay, matches will be broadcasted by the public broadcaster Canal 5

Turning complexity into confidence

The World Cup may be global, but its audience dynamics are deeply local. In Latin America, turning passion and scale into value depends on measurement that is consistent, comparable and trusted – across platforms, screens and viewing moments shaped by both technology and timing.

As the tournament unfolds, Latin America will once again show why it sits at the heart of global football passion and why clarity in measurement is essential to capturing the full value of the world’s most powerful sporting event.
